How do you quiet the mind?

There's a lot going on here, that perhaps I'll write about tomorrow, but my mind is a buzzin' now.  I'm unsettled, like the weather out my window.  Part of me wants to make lists - things that need to be done, books to be read, steps to take, menus to plan, people to talk to, etc.  The other part of me thinks I should head to adoration.  But I'm afraid when I get there I'll be making those lists in my mind.

How do you quiet yourself - mind, body and soul?

  1. It helps me to write down what is bothering me. I have kept a diary since I was ten years old, and although I've chosen to blog more than write in it, it is always in my nightstand, just in case. I also find praying the rosary (I have a CD that the Knights of Columbus sell at our parish) helps me tune out the chatter. Lastly, yoga helps me so much. The repetitive movements and physical exertion makes the chatter stop, for at least the duration of the class. If it wasn't for yoga, I would've lost my mind a LONG time ago!

  2. I'm a big journaler as well. It helps to process and debrief when I write it down, and then oftentimes I am able to forget or move on. I also like scented candles, some favorite Christian music, and maybe some exercise as well.

  3. Last week, my friend asked me if I could just think about an hour at a time when I'm overwhelmed. That has helped me this week. Just thinking about what I'm doing an hour at a time instead of the whole day. I've always wanted to journal, but never have...maybe one day... Hope you find peace today!

  4. Thank you for all the suggesstions. I did feel a little better later on in the day. I think I had gotten a bit overwhelmed when I went to clean up my sewing area, much of the stuff I had inherited from my mom. As I was putting things away I found so many projects that have been started and left undone, by both her and me. That along with other things I need to address just got to me.

I recently received a beautiful one decade rosary and and that seems doable to me. I have a hard time doing the whole thing.

I desperately need to add more exercise to my life, so I may just have to try some yoga.

  5. I swim. And I listen to Christian music while I do it. (I have an awesome waterproof case/headphones for my iPod :)).

I get into the water stressed, tense, listing in my head and I get out relaxed and feeling oh so much better.

Glad you are feeling better. I will add you to my rosary intention this evening (I use an app on my phone that is audio - helps me to keep going, stay focused than just on my own).
