Local air show

This summer we have been treated to a number of “air shows.”  It seems if we sit in the backyard long enough we will be privy to some sort of interesting aerial event.

A month or so back I heard a loud buzzing.  Since this summer has been so dry, I knew it wasn't any of the neighbors mowing.  All I had to do is look up to see what was happening.

Just passing through.

These were much quieter visitors.

Somehow I never get tired of seeing the Redtail hawks.  They are so majestic.  I am not quite sure what the Swallow thought of him, though.

These are by far my favorite part of our air show.  Despite having two feeders with four holes each, the hummingbirds continue, daily, to chase each other away, as if there isn't enough to go around.  The male are particularly aggressive, going after both other males and the females.

If they can't even feed together, it kind of makes you wonder how they get together to make more hummingbirds!

  1. We did not have a lot of success this year with the hummingbirds. Wondering if it was the heat/drought.

A few weeks back, we saw some hot air ballons way off in the distance...but no blimps :).
